Prices below are Convenient Licensing’s published service fees as shown on the services page. They are not board fees, and they are not a quote for a different company. This is not legal advice. Confirm the current catalog before you pay.

A licensing budget should show what you pay the service, what you pay the board, and what you pay outside vendors. The service fee and the board fee are different bills. A low service price can still sit on top of fingerprints, transcripts, license verifications, and a board charge that the state sets.

This page is the cost comparison. Why clinicians use a licensing service covers the reasons to get help. Use both to match the amount of help to the work you need.

What a medical licensing service actually does

For an individual RN, NP or other APRN, PA, or physician, the work is the application, not the clinical care. Depending on the plan, that can include:

  • a checklist of what that state asks for,
  • a place to track expiration dates, CE, and receipts,
  • document collection and board follow-up,
  • preparation and, where authorized, submission of the application and background check.

It does not include a guarantee that a board will issue a license, a promise about processing time, or the board’s own fee. Convenient Licensing’s catalog says service fees are separate from third-party charges. DEA registration support and state controlled-substance registration support are separate add-ons even on Full Service.

Fee types: board fees, service fees, and pass-through costs

Board or agency fees are set by the state or federal agency. Hawaii’s RN endorsement fee, Florida’s RN endorsement fee, and the DEA’s registration fee are examples. They change on the agency’s schedule, not ours. Use the license cost planner to line up the charges you can confirm for a destination, and recheck the board before you pay.

Service fees pay for the firm’s work: tracking, checklists, document handling, or preparing the file. Convenient Licensing publishes those amounts.

Pass-through costs are bills from someone who is not the board and not the licensing firm. Common ones are fingerprint vendors, nursing-school transcripts, NPDB self-queries, and Nursys verification reports ordered for an endorsement. The vendor sets the price. A service can tell you the item is required. It should not fold that vendor’s price into a “license costs $X” headline unless the quote itemizes it.

Published Convenient Licensing prices

These are the approved catalog amounts. Billing units matter. Tracking, Checklist, Limited Service, and Maintenance and Renewal are monthly. Full Service is per license application.

Offering Published price Who it is for
Self-Service Tracking $35 per month Organizing licenses, deadlines, CE, and receipts. No application preparation.
Self-Service Checklist $100 per month You complete the applications, with RN and NP checklists and tracking.
Limited Service $350 per month Assisted support. You complete the application and background check. The firm handles documents, board follow-up, and portal messaging.
Full Service $275 per license application End-to-end preparation for APRNs, including NPs. Other professions request a custom quote.
DEA registration support $100 per registration One DEA registration. Not included in Full Service.
Controlled-substance registration support $100 per registration One state CSR or CDS registration. Not included in Full Service.
License and certification renewal $100 per renewal One renewal, once you are licensed.
Maintenance and renewal $275 per month Ongoing renewal and credential support for RNs and APRNs.
Non-compact RN license with an NP application $100 per license Only with Full Service, when an NP also needs an RN license in a non-compact state.

Priority preparation is $150 per license or service. Rush preparation is $250 per license or service. Discipline-history review and foreign-education review are $250 each. These are separate selections, not part of the base plan price. Priority and rush preparation concern the service’s work; they do not purchase a shorter board review queue.

DIY vs. checklist vs. assisted vs. full service

Do it yourself when you are applying in one familiar state, you can read the board’s instructions, and you have time to chase a transcript or a verification. Your cost is the board fee plus vendors. Missing documents can leave the file incomplete and delay review. The licensing timeline and document checklist tools are built for that path.

Self-Service Tracking ($35/month) fits a clinician who already holds licenses and wants expiration alerts, CEU tracking, and a document folder. It does not prepare an application.

Self-Service Checklist ($100/month) fits an RN or NP who will fill out the forms and wants a 50-state checklist, downloadable forms, and progress tracking. Other professions are by consultation. You still sign and submit.

Limited Service ($350/month) fits someone who will complete the application and the background check but wants the firm to submit documents, follow up with the board, and keep status updates in the portal. Live email and portal support is included. Application preparation is not.

Full Service ($275 per APRN application) fits an APRN who wants the firm to prepare the application, coordinate the background-check requirements, and submit where authorized. Physicians, PAs, and other clinicians need a custom quote for this tier. A second state is another application fee, not a second month of the same $275.

Add DEA or CSR support only when that registration is actually required. Buying it “just in case” does not create prescriptive authority.

Worked example: two APRN applications

For a hypothetical clinician purchasing two APRN Full Service applications, two DEA-registration support services, and one state CSR-support service, the published service subtotal is:

Service Calculation Subtotal
APRN application preparation 2 × $275 $550
DEA registration support 2 × $100 $200
State CSR registration support 1 × $100 $100
Service subtotal $850

This is an illustration of billing units, not a determination that the clinician needs those registrations. Board and federal registration fees, fingerprinting, transcripts, verification, and any selected review or preparation upgrades are additional. Request an itemized quote for the actual states and credentials before purchase.

For a monthly plan, calculate monthly price × months subscribed. Two months of Limited Service at $350 per month would be $700 in service fees. That plan has a different task list from Full Service, so comparing $350 with $275 without checking duration and scope gives an incomplete picture.

A useful budget has separate columns for service fee, agency fee, vendor fee, payment date, and whether the item is optional or required. Keep receipts by application so a later renewal is not accidentally included in the initial-license total.

Questions to ask any licensing service

Ask these before you compare a headline price with the table above.

  • Is the price per application, per state, or per month?
  • Which professions are eligible without a custom quote?
  • Are board fees, fingerprints, transcripts, and verifications included or extra?
  • Does the fee include DEA and state controlled-substance registrations?
  • Who signs the application, and who is the applicant of record at the board?
  • What happens if the board requests more information?
  • When does the fee become non-refundable?

Convenient Licensing’s published terms say service fees are non-refundable once work has begun, and work begins when the client submits the intake form. Third-party fees are non-refundable once paid. Read the current terms on the site before you start a file.

A useful warning sign is a single price that claims to include “the license” without saying whether the board fee is inside it. Another is a firm that will not name the board portal you will use. You should be able to see your own application status.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a medical licensing service cost?

At Convenient Licensing, published options in 2026 are $35, $100, or $350 per month, or $275 per APRN license application for Full Service. DEA and state controlled-substance support are $100 per registration. Board fees are additional.

Is $275 the total cost of a license?

No. That is the Full Service fee for one APRN application. The state board, fingerprint vendor, schools, and verification services charge their own fees.

Do you charge physicians the same $275?

Full Service at $275 per application is published for APRNs, including NPs. Other healthcare professionals request a custom quote.

Why do some quotes look lower?

A monthly tracking plan and a full application are different products. A price that excludes follow-up, background checks, or a second state will look smaller. Compare the unit (month vs. application) and the task list, not only the first number.
